Fake Blood at Studio B, VEGA & The Twelves, Jason Mundo, The Glamour & Krames - Weekend Rollout

Friday, December 12th, 2008

Here in NYC, Trouble & Bass is growing and back in BK where they belong. This time it is Studio B where they make their new home. This month they have special guest Fake Blood from London. Fake Blood has done remixes for Hot Chip, The Kills, and Armand Van Helden to name a few. He is known for his tune Mars, where you can get here.

Fake Blood - Mars - Zshare

The tune has an early 90’s rave feel to it with simple modern day drum samples influenced by bmore club or ghetto tech. With the epic intro, it just drops to a really nasty, gritty electro bassline. It’s so simple and catchy, but makes the dancefloor go off.

T&B also is playing host to Dutty Artz, who gets a shot at playing the side room. Dutty Artz is known for their world beats and tropical sounds. It consist of Geko Jones, Dj Rupture and Matt Shadetek to name a few. You can actually check out one of Dutty Artz protege’s Talisen, with his new mix Apricity. Although Talisen is not going to be with the Dutty Artz crew tonight, he will be on his own turf at Bard College doing a show up there before the Holidays. Check out his myspace

The Twelves are from Rio de Janeiro and have done offical remixes for Black Kids & New Young Pony Club. They recently just played Famous Friend’s 1 year anniversary in NYC and for sure to look out for around the country. They have a very disco soft electro sound to them, with a Midnight Juggernauts or Van She influence . Their special guest will be VEGA, the former frontman of Ghosthustler. VEGA released All too Vivid late summer and has had remixs from Kill The Noise and Miami Horror.

The Glamour are coming to NYC at the Studio at Websterhall, and you should go!. Influenced by Alan Braxe, Fred Faulke and Dimitry from Paris, you would think these guys were from europe, because of their unfluences and “rave” music, but really, they are from Milwaukee. They have been remixed by Tommie Sunshine and been playing all over the country. For sure a tastemaker in the electronic dance music, these guys will for sure give you a party. Their latest mixtape was featured on Discobelle, entitled Mixin’ It Up.

Another person on the bill that you shouldn’t miss is Krames. Hailing from Virgina and now residing in Brooklyn, Krames has been touring non stop. he is about to embark on a European tour and a Texas tour early in the new year. You can download a slew of mixtapes from his myspace.

Musicians Twitter Roadmap

By Ariel Hyatt (@CyberPR) & Laura Fitton (@Pistachio)

[Note from Music Think Tank: This is a comprehensive post on Twitter.  If you are an artist and you have not heard about or used Twitter, you should read this post.]

It has been over 18 months since I joined the Twitter community and since I began to really use it something has shifted for me radically. Using Twitter has directly contributed to my life in meaningful ways.

I must admit that when I first saw it, I wanted to cry.  Why would anyone care about what it is I do?  As a still recovering traditional publicist I couldn’t really understand the benefit for my artists if I was using Twitter.  After all, it’s about my clients not about me. How wrong I was…. It turns out the social web isn’t directly about you, it’s about other people: The audience that you become engaged with, and how you interact with them and with them in mind magic can happen.

Blip Festival 2008

Thursday, December 4th, 2008

So the Blip Festival is happening for the 3 year in a row. It’s pretty much a bunch of game and music geeks get together to perform, make and teach each other about 8bit music or chiptune music. These guys strip down the most simplistic and bare essentials of a sound and cut it up, chop and splice them together to make, in essence a 21st century version gameboy and nintendo music. its great. check out the video and site

Ted Rogers Passes

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008

TORONTO, Dec 2 (Reuters) - Ted Rogers, who transformed a single FM
radio station into a North American broadcasting, publishing and
wireless telecommunications conglomerate, has died, Rogers
Communications said on Tuesday. He was 75.

Rogers, who was hospitalized earlier this month for an existing heart
condition, died at his home in Toronto.

“Though Ted was relentless in business and building this company over
the years, he was also very much a family man. His impact on family,
community and country was as impressive as his business success,” Phil
Lind, Rogers vice chairman, who worked with the founder for almost 40
years, said in a statement.

He was a highly regarded businessman, even by some of his fiercest
rivals, and is seen as a radio and wireless telephone pioneer. He
started his company in 1960 with an C$85,000 loan.

Today, Rogers Communications’ owns Canada’s biggest mobile phone
service provider, one of the country’s biggest cable companies, a
portfolio of magazines, radio stations, trade journals, and Major
League Baseball’s Toronto Blue Jays.

A prominent philanthropist, Rogers was made an Officer of the Order of
Canada in 1990. In 1994, he was inducted into the Canadian Business
Hall of Fame.

Rogers’ media business counts the likes of Canwest Global
Communications (CGS.TO: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) and
privately held CTVglobemedia among its rivals.

“Ted Rogers was one of the greatest entrepreneurs and builders our
country has ever seen,” CTVglobemedia CEO Ivan Fecan said in a
statement. “I admired him enormously. For us at CTVglobemedia, he was
both a wonderful partner and very tough competitor.”
